Kindles in the Wild – A Warlock’s Storm – Marie-Claude Bourque – July 16, 2022 – Eastern State Penit

This next location was a last minute add in on our latest trip. We figured we had time and we were only 12 minutes away, so what the heck. If you are a lover of the paranormal, ghost hunters, or just spooky things, you may have seen at least one show about it. But trust me when I say they do not do it justice. Now mind you, we went in the middle of the day, when it was hot, but not roasting, so it could have always been worse.

One of the best things about this location is the audio tour that you get to listen to on your journey. As soon as you walk through the imposing entrance, you are handed a pair of headphones and player. As you get to each numbered spot, you click on the corresponding numbers on your device and follow the path the voice takes you on.

We were able to visit many different locations in the prison, including some of the prison blocks and exercise yard. We even got to see Al Capone’s cell, well what they think it would have looked like with all of the bribes the boy was paying out. There is currently a temporary exhibit onsite that was a fascinating look at the current prison system, and a huge monument showing the progression in sheer numbers.

If you are up for the more sinister and scary, they do have night tours and I have heard nothing but good things about their Halloween extravaganza. Eastern State Penitentiary has long been on my To See list and I was not disappointed.

The book that traveled with me might not seem like it was perfect for this location, but I assure you it was. The author included the best of the good and the bad, there is a crime that transcends time and death, and loneliness that steals your soul, even when it is brought on by your own decisions. After walking the halls of the prison, it gave me a better understanding for the characters in this book, the living and the dead, and it made me enjoy both all the more.

This book, like this prison, is something that I was so glad to experience, and I am looking forward to more just like them.

Happy Reading

Official published review:

Dangerous waters

As a first experience with this author it was fantastic! I love the instant love aspect of the story, and the way family always has your back, even if you have walled off your heart. I have a deep love for the sea and the history to be found there, so the author quickly captivated me with the struggle during a hurricane. This book has so many HEAs and I can’t wait to read more books about the Order of the Black Oak.
